MetaTrader 5 (MT5) Login Issues & Troubleshooting Guide

1. Common Login Issues

  • Cannot connect to the trading account

  • Incorrect account number or password

  • Server unavailable or connection timeout

  • Wrong trading server selected

  • Account locked or disabled

  • Security authentication failure (e.g., two-factor authentication)

2. How to Resolve MT5 Login Problems

  1. Verify Account Number & Password

    • Account Number: Enter your exact MT5 trading account number.

    • Password: Case-sensitive – ensure no typos or missing characters.

    • If forgotten, reset via your client portal or control panel, or contact support.

  2. Select the Correct Server

    1. On the login screen, open the Server dropdown.

    2. Choose the server provided by your broker.

    3. If unsure, ask your broker’s support team for the exact server name.

  3. Check Your Network Connection

    • Ensure your device is online and connection is stable.

    • For “timeout” or “cannot connect” errors, try switching networks (e.g., mobile data or another Wi-Fi).

  4. Restart the MT5 Platform

    • Close all MT5 windows completely.

    • Reopen MT5 and attempt to log in again.

  5. Adjust Firewall & Security Software

    • Add MetaTrader 5 to your firewall’s and antivirus software’s “allowed” or “trusted” applications.

    • Temporarily disable any security tools that might block MT5 network access, then retry.

  6. Update to the Latest Version

    • Download and install the newest MT5 build from the [official MetaTrader 5 site] or your broker’s website to resolve compatibility issues.

  7. Check Account Status

    • If you see “Account disabled” or “Account locked,” your account may be frozen or pending verification.

    • Contact your broker’s support to confirm any required identity checks or reactivation steps.

  8. Resolve Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Errors

    • Ensure your authentication app (e.g., Google Authenticator) code is current.

    • Confirm your mobile device’s clock is correctly synced, as time drift can invalidate codes.

3. Contact Your Broker’s Support Team

If you still cannot log in after following the above steps, prepare the following details and reach out to your broker’s support:

  • MT5 Account Number

  • Full Error Message (or a screenshot)

  • Steps You’ve Already Tried

Tip: It’s a good practice to store your MT5 shortcuts and frequently used server details in a secure note. This way, troubleshooting future login issues becomes much faster and more efficient.
